TOKEN BINS

Tokenization Data: FPAN vs. DPAN Identification

For accurate transaction processing and risk analysis of tokenized payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.), it is necessary to distinguish between the physical card and its digital representation.

FPAN (Funding PAN): The original 16-digit card number issued by the bank. Used to retrieve core card attributes (Brand, Type, Category, Country).
DPAN (Device PAN): The token generated by the Token Service Provider (TSP). This is the number present in the transaction flow for mobile/digital wallets.
PAR (Payment Account Reference): A non-PAN identifier linking multiple DPANs to a single FPAN. Note: PAR is not a numeric prefix and cannot be retrieved via BIN lookup.

Identifying Token BIN Ranges

BinBase.com provides the capability to identify DPAN ranges, which are distinct from physical FPAN ranges.

Technical Implementation

  • Token Indicator: Our extended database includes a dedicated flag to identify if a BIN range belongs to a Token Service Provider.
  • Data Mapping: By identifying the DPAN range, systems can apply specific risk rules for tokenized vs. non-tokenized transactions.
  • Supported Networks: Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, American Express, and Discover Network.

Database Support and Availability

Support for Token identification and DPAN range mapping is included in our Extended License database builds.

Feature Capability
DPAN Identification Yes, via dedicated BIN ranges.
FPAN Attribution Identification of issuing country, bank, and card product for the underlying account.
Token Indicators Available as extra flags in custom database builds.

This data is available at additional cost of $2900 (one-time).
